Christmas at the Station

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

Take McAdam Railway Station ~ a provincial & national treasure, then gather a village of volunteers ~ young & old alike, then decorate every nook & cranny. Next, add lights, glitter & sparkle (and a well time snowstorm). Bake cookies for the children, and make a lot of hot apple cider. Then add some music ~ a carol… perhaps “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas,” and finally, open the doors. Admirers will come, and they will smile & marvel in childlike wonder. It is a perfect recipe for Christmas at the Station.

There’s Just Something About This Place…

McAdam Railway Station, has long ago cast a spell on me. It takes me back ~ way back, the very second I step out of my vehicle & glance up at this majestic architectural beauty. I have to tell you, this happens to me every single time I visit. There’s just something about this place. I feel the history, the people, their stories, and I am drawn to to the idea of maybe one day, it will surpass its’ glorious past and be a fully functioning grand hotel with new people, new stories and a new chance at shining brightly once again. This building is begging for it and it would be spectacular ~ a jewel once again but for now, we have these special events that the whole village of McAdam participates in hosting. Christmas at the Station is one of my very favourites!

At Christmas, It is Downright Magical

McAdam Railway Station was modelled after a Scottish castle with Gothic, Baroque & Victorian style architecture. Sir William Van Horne, who built the Canadian Pacific Railway, commissioned the station. Architect Edward Maxwell and W.H. Joseph McVay & sons were directly responsible for construction.  It is a marvel of architecture but it’s so much more than that. It’s alive with history. And at Christmas, it is downright magical.

This Place is Special

Come fall under the spell… Spend an afternoon, and be sure to share your experience with others. Help support the little community that can, as they showcase this grand lady throughout the year. Donate to this worthy cause, as it should be our cause, this is a provincial treasure, and a national gem. The Village of McAdam knows this place is special, and you will too.
