The New Brunswick Sunflower Festival: A Field of 250,000 Blooms

There are sunflower fields, and then there is the New Brunswick Sunflower Festival in Salisbury.
Imagine climbing aboard a wagon and riding toward the top of a six-acre field, with more than 250,000 sunflowers stretching out in front of you. Yellow, orange, red, white and darker blooms fill the view, and suddenly you understand why people fell in love with this festival in the first place.
After a few years away, the New Brunswick Sunflower Festival is back at The Green Pig Country Market in Salisbury for two weekends this summer.
The festival first debuted in August 2019 and quickly became a popular late-summer outing for families, photographers, flower lovers and anyone looking for something a little different to do in New Brunswick.
Then came the fire.
In September 2022, The Green Pig Country Market was destroyed by fire. The popular Salisbury business rebuilt and reopened in 2024 with a new market that is approximately twice the size of the original.
The return of the sunflower festival is another chapter in that story.
And if you’ve never experienced it, this is a pretty good year to see what all the fuss was about.

A Sea of Sunflowers in Salisbury
The scale is the first thing that gets you. The sunflower field covers more than six acres, with more than 250,000 blooms creating a sea of colour across the property. More than 25 varieties have been planted over the years.
Some are the familiar golden yellow we all picture when we think of sunflowers. Others bring shades of orange, red, white and almost-black into the mix, with different shapes and sizes throughout the field.
The best part? You get to get right in among them.
Take a Wagon Ride Through the Sunflower Field
Hop aboard the wagon for a ride around the perimeter of the field and you’ll get a real sense of just how big this sunflower patch is.
The ride takes you around the field, including toward the higher part of the property where the view opens up across the flowers. It’s an especially good option for families with young children or anyone who would rather save their walking energy for exploring the field and photo spots.
And yes, you’ll want your camera ready.
Pick a Sunflower to Take Home
Your admission includes the opportunity to select and cut one sunflower bloom to take home.
With so many varieties growing in the field, choosing just one may be harder than you expect.
Look for your favourite colour, find the bloom that catches your eye and cut your own little souvenir from the field. It’s a simple part of the experience, but one that makes the visit feel a little more personal.
More Sunflowers
If you desire more sunflowers, there are various price points from one extra sunflower to 6, 12 or 18 more, or an all-you-can-fill bucket, and with several varieties, and several bouquet options, you can choose your dream sunflower bouquet! Decorative containers are also available for purchase.
Proceeds from NB Sunflower Festival’s additional bloom purchases are donated to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation.

Bring Your Camera
The sunflowers are obviously the stars, but the festival has added plenty of fun photo opportunities throughout the field.
Over the years, visitors have posed beside brightly painted tractors, a bathtub, a large wooden swing, a church pew, a bicycle, a bright red British-style phone booth, oversized frames, chairs and other playful props.
There are plenty of options for family photos, couples, kids and, of course, that new profile picture you’ve been meaning to take.
The festival also welcomes professional photographers for family and wedding photography, with a limited number of photography passes available each day. Special events can also be booked within the sunflower field.

Yoga in the Sunflowers
Yoga among the sunflowers is back.
Bring your own yoga mat and join a one-hour class surrounded by the flowers. Morning classes are scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays at 11 a.m., with no additional charge beyond regular festival admission.
It is a pretty memorable setting for a yoga class, especially when you’re surrounded by thousands of sunflowers.
Local Vendors, The Green Pig and Ice Cream
There is more to the festival than the sunflower field. The artisan and crafter market features local vendors and products, while The Green Pig Country Market offers farm-fresh produce, baked goods, coffee, giftware and New Brunswick products.
The Green Pig Bistro is another reason to allow yourself plenty of time at the festival. Depending on the day’s offerings, you can stop for breakfast or lunch, enjoy the farm-to-table menu and sit inside or out on the patio. Open daily 8am-6pm. Be sure to try their espresso bar, too!
And then there’s ice cream. Because a summer visit to a sunflower field seems like a perfectly good excuse for an ice cream cone.
The Green Pig: From Fire to a New Beginning
The return of the sunflower festival feels even more meaningful when you know what happened to The Green Pig.
The original market was destroyed by fire in September 2022, forcing the Salisbury business to start over. After a major rebuild, the new Green Pig Country Market opened in 2024. The new building is approximately twice the size of the original, giving the business more room for its market, café and local products.
Now the sunflower festival is returning too.The festival made its debut in 2019 and became a popular summer attraction before the fire and subsequent rebuilding interrupted its run. Bringing it back gives visitors a chance to enjoy something familiar while also seeing what has changed at The Green Pig.
And judging by how much people loved the sunflower festival before, there will likely be plenty of happy visitors ready to see it return.
A New Brunswick Summer Tradition Worth Bringing Back
The New Brunswick Sunflower Festival is one of those events that doesn’t need much explaining once you see the field.
You arrive, climb aboard the wagon, look out across hundreds of thousands of flowers and realize just how impressive six acres of sunflowers can be.
Then you get to wander through the field, take photos, choose a bloom to bring home, enjoy local food, browse the vendors and maybe finish with an ice cream. After a few years away, it’s good to see the sunflowers back in Salisbury. And if this is your first visit, don’t forget your camera.
