Kings Landing, New Brunswick

Kings Landing Historical Settlement

For more than 50 years, Kings Landing Historical Settlement in Prince William, New Brunswick has offered an unforgettable window into life in 19th Century life. This immersive living history museum opened in 1974 and continues to welcome visitors with open arms, and hearths. More than a museum, Kings Landing is a place where stories come alive through the people who lived them, offering a hands-on, heart-filled glimpse into New Brunswick’s heritage.

Meet local villagers with interesting tales to tell. Interact with them as they go about their daily chores, portraying real people from New Brunswick’s history. It is a history lesson like no other, with each visit promising a unique and special encounter. Visit frequently to witness the changing of the seasons, making each return as fascinating as the first.

Meet 19th Century New Brunswick

Explore the charming village nestled along the banks of the Saint John River, where you can wander through historical homes, farms, and businesses frozen in the 19th Century. Each step offers a glimpse into the conversations, culture, and lives of that era in New Brunswick. I make several visits annually, starting with Maple, the First Taste of Spring, then witnessing the full bloom of summer, followed by the vibrant colours of fall during Harvest Time with all the bustling preparations for winter, ending with the highly anticipated Christmas in the Valley.

King’s Head Inn

Indulge in a unique dining experience at the King’s Head Inn to round out your Kings Landing adventure. Don't miss the themed dinners offered during Thanksgiving and Christmas, both of which I've had the pleasure of experiencing and highly recommend. Christmas by the Hearth is another themed-dinner offering that presents a Victorian Era Christmas dinner in one of Kings Landing’s historic homes. Enjoy the company of loved ones and delve into 19th-century holiday traditions, truly bringing the history of the holidays to life.

Grant Store

One of the highlights of my day is always a stop at the H.C. Grant store to pick up a bag of old-fashioned candy. Step into Mr. Grant's General Store to explore the latest innovations of the 19th Century and peruse his finest goods and wares for the home. Originally from New York, the Grant family moved to Annapolis, Nova Scotia, and then settled in Southampton, New Brunswick, where Henry Colwell Grant opened his iconic general store. It quickly became the heart of the community, operating on a cash, credit, or trade policy. Today, the H.C. Grant Store at Kings Landing is still family-run, with Henry’s wife Barbara and their children often seen helping out. Don’t forget to take home a souvenir from the Grant Store or browse the Peddler’s Market at the main entrance building as you conclude your visit.
