Chester Has It ALL and then some…
The picturesque historic seaside village of Chester has unique shops, cafes & restaurants. It boasts an 18-hole golf course, a thriving live theatre playhouse and two harbours surrounded by lovely homes & cottages and it is brimming with sailboats & yachts. Chester has been referred to as Lunenburg’s or Mahone Bay’s Little Sister… but make no mistake, this charming coastal village on Nova Scotia’s Lighthouse Route (just less than an hour from Halifax), is all grown up and ready to impress on her own, because Chester has it ALL (and then some)!

Live In the Moment
Visit Chez Glass Lass to discover chic ‘one-of-a-kind’ fused glass artisan products, make your own DIY candles at Light Your Fire Studio, or go to a Chester Playhouse theatre production. Dance across the waves on a racing yacht or soak up a romantic sunset sail. Grab a healthy bite at a cute cafe or pull up a stool at the oldest pub in Nova Scotia (a.k.a. ‘Chester’s Living Room’ Fo’c’sle Pub). Enjoy tried & true seafood specialities with an ocean view from two decks at The Rope Loft or indulge in a fine dinner at White Gate Inn & Restaurant with freshly caught & locally sourced ingredients. Pack a picnic, camp or jump into ‘casual chaos with character’ at Mecklenburgh Inn B & B. Go ahead ~ live ‘in the moment’ & take no prisoners! You are going to love it here!
Kiwi Cafe ~ A New Zealand Touch in Nova Scotia
Enjoy a Breakfast Burrito and do partake in a delish Lemon Square (like I did my first visit last spring) or opt for a B.L.A.T. (BLT + Avocado) with peppermint tea like I did my second time here. You can’t go wrong at Kiwi Cafe. I love the bright colourful decor & the vibrant ‘happening’ atmosphere here. I almost made the mistake of sitting in a local’s regular spot, someone joked. LOL The locals here love it and no wonder! Count on friendly service & tasty food! Bring a mate to share the experience! This is one of my favourite cafes in the area. Should have known the owner was from New Zealand! I love Kiwis!
Treasure Your Time & Find a Treasure…
Find an artisan treasure at a gift shop in Chester or check out nearby Oak Island to see what all the hidden pirate mystery treasure hype is all about. Go on a boat tour, cycle the scenic roads, climb Castle Rock, hike Graves Island Provincial Park, or go antiquing around Chester (Blue Shutters Art Gallery & Antiques is my favourite as I always find a gem or two there). Treasure your time here in Chester and perhaps find a treasure or two!
Chester is Waiting for You!
More than anything… just make sure you drift on in, because… Chester is waiting for you! Trust me, I have only skimmed the surface of what this seaside charmer offers, so I will be back again to explore more & discover other great eats & treats & treasures she has.
Give Chester a Chance ~ You Will Fall in Love!
I hope you give Chester a chance and if you are looking for accommodations while visiting this ‘gateway to the south shore’ of Nova Scotia, I have the perfect place for you! Enjoy a photo tour of Westaway House in nearby Chester Basin. It is a beauty & now it is for sale!
My pick for staying & playing on the NS South Shore.
Westaway House is an Airbnb that I enjoyed staying at so much the first time, I came back again & again. The owner Cherie, whom is now a friend too, just shared that after 20+ years of owning this beautiful Victorian home & spectacular property, she has just put it on the market. So, if you, or someone you know, might be interested, please share my story & the link below to learn more. Westaway House is in the heart of Chester Basin, NS with so much potential. Dare to dream…
My experience is my own & not at all meant to be an extensive or inclusive exploration of Chester, so please check out much more information on other gift shops, stores, restaurants, heritage sites, theatre, outdoor adventures, family activities, cultural experiences, inns, B&B’s and local special events like ‘Chester Race Week’, the ‘Annual Gingerbread Competition’ & ‘Shop Chester Under the Lights’ so that you can ‘shop, dine, play & stay’ in Chester all year round.
This post was sponsored by Westaway House; however, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
