Gulliver's World Café and Guest Suites

UPDATED AUGUST 3, 2025

Culinary Flavours from Around the World with Down Home Hospitality

Find tastes from around the world and a culinary destination at Gulliver's World Café in an 1860’s restored historic farmhouse at 17 River Run Lane in Gagetown, New Brunswick. Chef Thane Mallory and his wife, Nancy, invite you to travel the globe, one delicious plate at a time, while soaking up the relaxed charm of the Maritimes and one of the best waterfront views in the province. With docking facilities for boaters, and two inviting guest suites, you can dine, stay, and wake up by the water.

Travel to Faraway Lands

Longing to travel, but still in staycation mode? Gulliver’s World Café & Guest Suites offers an escape without going far. Whether you arrive by road or tie up at their private 150-foot dock, you’ll be warmly welcomed. Once you step inside, settle in and let your tastebuds do the travelling. My husband Eric and I opted for an overnight stay in 2020, which gave us time to fully unwind and explore the surrounding village, steeped in poetic stillness and history.

You Can’t Beat the View

“You can’t beat the view,”said Chef Thane, beaming as we sat down for lunch on Gulliver’s deck. He’s right. With a sweeping, unobstructed waterfront vista it’s nothing short of spectacular. “This is one of the best river waterway systems in the world,” he added. “We just kinda take it for granted and Gagetown is an amazing location to boat from. It is very centralized, From here you can explore Belleisle Bay, Washademoak Lake, or Grand Lake.”

Visitors can launch a boat right in the village at the end of Front Street at Rotary Park. Simply park your trailer, and stay overnight at Gulliver’s —boat included. “That’s what makes us unique,” Chef Thane explained. “We attract boaters from all over the province who want to explore this incredible waterway.”

Lunch with Share Plates

We ordered entirely from the Starters menu, opting to share several small plates: the bite-sized Caprese Salad, Potato & Cheddar Perogies, and Smoked Squash Hummus with naan bread. Nancy recommended a lovely Cabernet Sauvignon to pair with lunch, and every bite exceeded expectation. When she asked which dish was our favourite, we honestly couldn’t choose.

Since its opening in November 2015, Gulliver’s has earned Tripadvisor’s Award of Excellence every single year. Their legendary Goose Fat French Fries have even caught the attention of CBC, CNN and Hospitality Magazine. Known as “New Brunswick’s most expensive french fries,” they’ve made through a labour-intensive process and available by reservation only. Trust me, they are worth every bite. And the Merlot ketchup is a standout all on its own. New in 2025, Chef Thane has now tweaked his recipe and is now sourcing local Wagyu fat to take these fries next level. The reviews are great and I look forward to returning soon on a Wagyu Wednesday to check them out.

Globally Inspired, Seasonally Fresh

The ever-evolving menu is a reflection of Thane & Nancy’s global adventures. Ingredients are locally sourced and seasonally driven, so no two visits are the same. That’s one of the things I love the most about dining here. We were lucky enough to sample a smoked sturgeon appetizer Thane was testing out on our visit. Fish lovers, take note - this one’s a winner!

A Taste From Home & Away

Gulliver’s has room for both traditional and adventurous diners. Eric was very happy with his ‘Meat & Taters’ dinner but I tried the ‘Po-Boy’. It is a deep-fried NB oysters & shrimp sandwich with special mayo, tomato, lettuce and Chow-Chow and a side of potato salad. I was so glad I gave this classic Louisiana sandwich a chance. It was really tasty. “The original concept,” Chef Thane shared, “was a taste from home and away. At Gulliver’s,” he explained, “we try to find the balance.” There is certainly something for everyone. Gulliver’s also caters to special dietary needs, just call ahead.

Save Room for Dessert

Eric finished with the famed Rum Runner’s cake, a rich ode to New Brunswick’s prohibition-era spirit. A Yelp review I’d read beforehand summed it up perfectly: “Do not leave without trying Gulliver’s Rum Runner Cake. So much rum, so much cake, so much deliciousness.”

I had the Semifreddo, a creamy Italian dessert that Chef Thane mastered during his time in Italy. Need I say more? He also studied at the prestigious Institute Paul Bocuse in Lyon, France, where only ten people from around the world are accepted each year. Nancy, it seems, may be one of the luckiest girls alive.

Stay the Night at Gulliver’s Guest Suites

Why rush off when you can stay the night? Gulliver's offers two guest suites: the Captain’s Cottage and the Osprey’s Nest. Both include complimentary docking for boaters and no-contact check-in for peace of mind. Enjoy a slice of heaven at Gulliver’s Guest Suites and wake up on the river.

Captain’s Cottage

Eric and I stayed in the Captain’s Cottage, a spacious and stylish retreat with a king-size bed, two seating areas, and a full bath. The ceiling, made from reclaimed wood salvaged from the original shed, added rustic charm. A shaded sitting area outside, complete with Adirondack chairs, offered river views. A fishing rod appeared leaning against the cottage when we returned from dinner and lured Eric down to the dock for some relaxing fishing in the evening. In room amenities include a fridge, coffee maker, microwave, and toaster. We lingered and savoured our quiet morning coffee views—one from inside the suite but the second outside down by the dock.

Osprey’s Nest

Up a private exterior staircase, the Osprey’s Nest offers a romantic hideaway. The private deck has sweeping water, and inside you’ll find a queen-size bed, cozy seating, and a full separate bath. A well-equipped kitchenette, with fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and induction burner makes longer stays comfortable and convenient.

Gagetown: A Hidden Gem

“Gagetown is a great place to hang out and unwind,” Thane shared, “The village is peaceful, yet alive with artists, artisans, and creative spirit.” Stroll along Front Street, pop into pottery shops and studios, and explore Gagetown Leather for a lovely selection of hats, purses, belts, and more. Visit Tilley House - Birthplace of Samuel Leonard Tilley, Father of Confederation, now showcasing memorabilia, local art, and Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik artifacts, and pop into Loomcrofters, known for its hand-woven designs, including the Royal Canadian Air Force and New Brunswick Tartans. Venture up the hill to take in the Queens County Court House Museum, a preserved 1836 courthouse, where you can sit in the judge’s chair and hear local stories and explore exhibits of local heritage and culture. After your tour, enjoy a locally-made craft cider and café treats at Gagetown Distilling and Cidery. On Sundays, a seasonal market with fresh produce, baked goods, plants, crafts, and food vendors fills the village green.

After exploring, return to Gulliver’s, curl up in a comfy chair, and watch the action on the water. You can also fish, kayak, canoe, or boat your way through one of the finest river systems in the world.
